QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University men's tennis team extended its winning streak to five matches Sunday afternoon with a 5-2 victory over Roosevelt University at the Quincy Racquet Club.
The Hawks secured the doubles point in dramatic fashion. The No. 1 duo of
Inigo Villacampa and
Enrique Doldan battled to a 7-5 win, while
Rodrigo Coello Trevino and
Patricio Jimenez edged out an 8-6 victory at No. 2 to clinch the point.
Quincy carried that momentum into singles play, earning four victories to seal the team result. Villacampa and Doldan each delivered dominant straight-set wins at Nos. 1 and 2, respectively. At No. 4 and No. 5 singles,
Gael Castro and
David Eusamio each secured hard-fought three-set victories to push the Hawks across the finish line.
Villacampa has now won four consecutive singles matches and seven straight doubles matches, doing so with multiple partners. Doldan extended his streak to four straight singles victories and five consecutive doubles wins. Eusamio continued his strong stretch as well, pushing his singles winning streak to six matches. Roosevelt earned points at Nos. 3 and 6 singles.
With the win, Quincy improves to 9-2 on the season and stretches its winning streak to five matches. The Hawks will be back in action Sunday, March 8, when they take on McKendree University beginning at 12:00 PM.
