QUINCY, Ill. – Quincy University split its duals Sunday at the GLVC Wrestling Championship inside Pepsi Arena, finishing fifth overall. The fifth-seeded Hawks fell to fourth-seeded and No. 25 Indianapolis in the quarterfinals before rebounding with a convincing win over sixth-seeded Drury in the fifth-place match.
In the championship dual, McKendree edged Maryville 20-18 to secure its second consecutive tournament title.
Quarterfinal: No. 25 Indianapolis 41 - RV Quincy 6
Indianapolis jumped out early and controlled the dual with bonus-point victories in seven of the ten bouts. Ranked foes Nathan Smith (125), Aidan Sprague (133), and Gavin Garcia (149) each secured bonus-point wins to build momentum for the Greyhounds.
Quincy's lone points came at 184 pounds, where
Callan Ivy earned a forfeit victory.
Fifth-Place Match: RV Quincy 30 - Drury 17
The Hawks responded with a strong performance against Drury, winning six bouts and collecting three bonus-point victories.
Quincy opened the dual with a forfeit win at 125 before
Te'Andre Allen delivered a dominant 10-0 major decision at 133. After Drury picked up wins at 141 and 149, the Hawks seized control in the middle weights.
Isaiah Nichols recorded a 16-0 technical fall at 157, and
Jackson Jones followed with a 17-2 technical fall at 165 to extend the lead. Drury edged out a tiebreaker decision at 174, but Quincy answered with key victories down the stretch.
At 184, Ivy posted a 9-0 major decision, and
Judah Yates secured the dual with a fall at 197.
