Hawks Fall to Indianapolis in Double Overtime of GLVC Tournament

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Quincy University men's soccer team's postseason run came to a heartbreaking end Sunday afternoon, as the Hawks fell 2-1 in double overtime to fourth-seeded Indianapolis at Key Stadium.

Quincy struck first and carried a lead into halftime before the Greyhounds found an equalizer in the second half. After the Hawks were forced to play the closing minutes of regulation and both overtime periods down a man, Indianapolis eventually found the winner midway through the second overtime.

The Hawks came out as the more aggressive side early, generating eight shots during the opening 45 minutes compared to just three for Indianapolis. Quincy broke through at the 19:53 mark when Leo Cann set up Mathias Bringedal, who finished the opportunity to give the Hawks a 1-0 advantage.

The goal was Bringedal's fifth of the season.

Quincy continued to create chances following the opener, including attempts from Bringedal, Lucca Barbero and Rylan Fischer in quick succession, but carried the one-goal advantage into halftime.

Indianapolis began to generate more pressure after the break and eventually found the equalizer in the 69th minute. Sam Siegel scored at the 68:02 mark to draw the Greyhounds level at 1-1.

The match took another turn late in regulation when Ryan Myatt was shown a red card in the 87th minute, forcing Quincy to play the remainder of the contest with 10 men. Indianapolis nearly capitalized immediately, but an Alejandro Zuniga attempt struck the crossbar just seconds later.

Despite playing a man down, the Hawks continued to battle in the first overtime. Carter Venvertloh produced an attempt early in the period before Cann put a shot on goal in the 96th minute, forcing a save from Indianapolis goalkeeper Rick Lammerts. Jake Offerman answered at the other end with a save of his own to send the match into a second overtime still tied at 1-1.

Indianapolis applied the pressure early in the second overtime, with Offerman making another save in the 102nd minute to keep Quincy alive.

The Greyhounds finally broke through at 104:56, just under five minutes into the second overtime. Joey Longo found Zuniga, who scored the game-winning goal with 5:04 remaining in the period to give Indianapolis the dramatic 2-1 victory.

The match was nearly even statistically, with both teams recording 13 shots and four corner kicks. Indianapolis held a 6-4 advantage in shots on goal. Offerman played all 104:56 in goal for Quincy and made four saves.

Quincy concludes the 2026 season with a 6-5-7 overall record after advancing to the GLVC Tournament.
