Hawks Fall to Truman State 38-14 at QU Stadium

QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University football team dropped its third consecutive game on Saturday (Oct. 17), falling 38-14 to Truman State University at QU Stadium. The loss marked Quincy's 10th straight against the Bulldogs and moved the Hawks to 2-5 overall and 1-3 in GLVC play.

Truman opened the scoring on its first possession, moving 42 yards before Diego Perez connected on a 30-yard field goal to put the Bulldogs ahead 3-0.

Quincy answered with its best drive of the opening half. Starting from its own 32, the Hawks moved 68 yards in 11 plays, converting a roughing-the-kicker penalty along the way before Bradyn Little found Elijah Genenbacher for a five-yard touchdown. Joe Reif added the extra point to give QU a 7-3 lead with 5:54 remaining in the first quarter. The touchdown reception was Genenbacher's fifth of the season.

The Bulldogs regained the lead on their next possession. Dylan Hair connected with Madden Irving for a 14-yard touchdown, putting Truman back in front 10-7 late in the opening quarter.

Truman added to its advantage in the second quarter with a 27-yard Perez field goal to make it 13-7. Quincy went three-and-out on the ensuing possession, running the ball on all three plays before being forced to punt.

The QU defense came up with a stop midway through the quarter, turning Truman away on fourth down after the Bulldogs reached the Quincy 15. The Hawks were unable to capitalize, however, as Little was sacked on consecutive plays before Quincy was forced to punt.

Truman struck once more before halftime, taking over at the Quincy 44 with 1:50 remaining and finishing the short drive on a 13-yard Hair touchdown run. A successful two-point conversion sent the Bulldogs into the break with a 21-7 advantage.

Quincy came out of halftime with a response.

Collin Parsons opened the drive with an 11-yard run and later broke loose for 32 yards to move the Hawks into the red zone. Little found Tykell Hammers for 13 yards to the Truman five before Parsons finished the nine-play, 75-yard possession with a two-yard touchdown run, cutting the deficit to 21-14 with 10:34 remaining in the third quarter.

The touchdown was Parsons' ninth rushing score of the season and extended his touchdown streak to five consecutive games.

Truman answered immediately. Irving broke a 41-yard run on third-and-one, setting up an eight-yard touchdown pass from Hair to Seth Martin that pushed the Bulldog advantage back to 28-14.

Quincy mounted another extended drive later in the quarter, converting a fourth down near midfield, but the possession ended when Little was intercepted at the Truman 37. The Bulldogs turned the takeaway into another touchdown drive that carried into the fourth quarter, with Irving scoring from one yard out to make it 35-14.

The Hawks' next possession crossed midfield before a fumble ended the drive at the Truman 36. The Bulldogs added a 43-yard Perez field goal with 6:13 remaining to produce the final 38-14 margin.

Quincy finished with a season-low 208 yards of total offense, including just 33 rushing yards and 175 through the air. Truman totaled 412 yards, with 250 coming on the ground. It marked the fourth consecutive game in which the Hawk defense allowed at least 200 rushing yards.

Little completed 20-of-27 passes for 175 yards and a touchdown, but Truman's pressure proved costly. The sophomore was sacked a career-high six times for 56 yards, the most sacks allowed by Quincy in a game since facing Indianapolis during the 2023 season. Little also threw two interceptions.

Parsons finished with 82 rushing yards and a touchdown on 18 carries, bringing an end to his streak of four consecutive 100-yard rushing performances. He added a team-high six receptions for 43 yards. Jackson Burnett caught five passes for 49 yards, while Derrick Miller added three receptions for 31 yards. Genenbacher finished with three catches for 20 yards and his fifth touchdown of the season.

Defensively, Jordan Elmore led all players with 13 tackles, including a sack, a pass breakup and a quarterback hurry. It marked Elmore's sixth double-digit tackle performance of the season. Taylin Scott followed with 11 tackles, giving him his fourth game this season with at least 10 stops, while Brevin Jackson recorded 10 tackles for his second double-digit performance of the year.

The Hawks will look to bounce back on the road next weekend, traveling to Rolla, Missouri, to face Missouri S&T on Saturday, Oct. 24 at 1:00 PM.
