Record Breaking Performance for Quincy Womens Soccer

QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University women's soccer team delivered a historic performance Wednesday night, defeating Upper Iowa University with a record breaking 7-0 at Jack Mackenzie Field.

The dominant victory marked the 400th win in program history and featured multiple individual milestones, including Jessie Newton breaking the program's single-season assist record, Rebecca Rheinheimer reaching 50 career points as a Hawk, and Daniella Segall scoring her first goal since returning from injury.

Quincy (6-3-6, 6-2-4 GLVC) controlled the match from the opening whistle, putting constant pressure on the Upper Iowa defense and finishing with 41 shots, including 22 on goal.

The Hawks also earned 11 corner kicks while limiting Upper Iowa (0-11-3, 0-11-1 GLVC) to just three shots, all of which were on target. Libby Kamp recorded three saves to secure the shutout as Quincy completed its seventh consecutive scoring opportunity with a goal.

The historic night began in the 22nd minute when Newton found the back of the net to give the Hawks a 1-0 advantage. Quincy continued to attack throughout the first half, creating chances through Rheinheimer, Emily Richardson, Segall and Abbie Martin.

With the Hawks maintaining pressure in the attacking third, Newton helped extend the lead in the 39th minute, assisting Tori Nelson's goal to make it 2-0 heading into halftime.

Newton's assist on Nelson's goal marked another step toward a record-breaking performance, but the Quincy offense was far from finished. The Hawks continued their attacking momentum after the break, recording 21 second-half shots and scoring five more times to put the game well out of reach.

Rheinheimer opened the second-half scoring in the 57th minute, finishing a pass from Newton to push the Quincy lead to 3-0. Less than two minutes later, Rheinheimer converted a penalty kick in the 59th minute to extend the advantage to four.

The two-goal performance brought Rheinheimer to 50 career points in a Quincy uniform, adding another milestone to an already memorable night for the Hawks.

Newton continued to make history in the 76th minute, scoring her second goal of the evening. The goal was Newton's first multi-goal game as a Hawk, capping a standout performance in which she finished with two goals and two assists.

Her second assist of the night, which came on Rheinheimer's first goal, brought her season total to 14 and broke Quincy's single-season assist record. The previous record of 13 assists was set by Jaclyn Mastroianni in 2013. Newton now stands alone at the top of the program's single-season record book.

The Hawks' offensive depth was on full display throughout the second half, with Richardson adding her name to the scoring sheet in the 70th minute.

Segall played a role in the goal by recording her first career assist as a Hawk. The moment marked an important return for Segall, who continued to contribute to Quincy's attacking effort after working her way back onto the field.

Segall then delivered one of the night's most rewarding moments in the 81st minute, scoring her first goal since returning from injury. Nelson provided the assist, giving her a goal and an assist on the evening.

Segall finished with five shots, including three on goal, while Newton led Quincy with eight shots and five on target. Rheinheimer added nine shots, five of which were on goal, as the Hawks repeatedly tested the Upper Iowa goalkeepers.

Quincy also celebrated a milestone for senior forward Dache Johnson, who made her 50th appearance in a Hawk uniform. The achievement added to a night that recognized the program's history while showcasing the continued contributions of its current players.

Defensively, the Hawks remained composed throughout the contest. Kamp played all 90 minutes in goal and made three saves, while Quincy's back line helped limit Upper Iowa to just one first-half shot and two in the second half. The Peacocks were unable to find an answer for Quincy's pressure, and the Hawks' defense secured the shutout without allowing a goal.

The physicality increased as the game progressed, with Upper Iowa receiving yellow cards in the 59th and 76th minutes. Quincy was whistled for six fouls compared to Upper Iowa's five, but the Hawks maintained their focus and continued to generate scoring chances through the final minutes.

Quincy finished with 15 more shots on goal than Upper Iowa, 22-3, highlighting the extent of its control on both ends of the field.

Wednesday's 7-0 victory was about much more than the final score. With the program's 400th win, Newton's record-breaking 14th assist of the season, Rheinheimer's 50 career points, Segall's return to the scoresheet and Johnson's 50th appearance, the Hawks turned a dominant team performance into a night full of milestones.

The women sit in fifth place in the GLVC conference standings as they will prepare for their last 2 regular season games before post season play. After today, the University of Missouri St. Louis and Missouri S&T women's soccer teams have both clinched their spot in the tournament.

The Hawks will travel to Lincoln University of Missouri in Jefferson City, MO on Sunday, October 18th for a start time of 12:00 PM.
