Hawks Host Upper Iowa in Final Regular-Season Home Match

QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University women's soccer team returns to Legends Stadium on Wednesday, October 14, to host Upper Iowa University in its final regular-season home match. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 PM.

Quincy enters the matchup at 5-3-6 overall and 5-2-4 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play after earning a 3-1 Senior Day victory over Southwest Baptist on Saturday.

Senior forward Rebecca Rheinheimer powered the Hawks to the win with her first career hat trick in a Quincy uniform, helping QU collect three important points in the conference standings.

Upper Iowa comes to Quincy at 0-10-3 overall and 0-10-1 in GLVC action. The Peacocks are still searching for their first victory of the season after falling 5-0 to Drury on Saturday.

With only three regular-season matches remaining, Wednesday gives Quincy an opportunity to build on its Senior Day performance and continue its push toward a top-four seed and a home match in the opening round of the GLVC Tournament.

Last Time Out

Quincy celebrated Senior Day with a 3-1 victory over Southwest Baptist behind a three-goal performance from Rheinheimer.

The Hawks controlled the opening half, outshooting the Bearcats 9-1, but were unable to convert their pressure into a goal before halftime.

That changed shortly after the break.

Rheinheimer opened the scoring in the 61st minute when she converted a penalty kick to put Quincy ahead 1-0. Just over three minutes later, Emily Richardson helped create the second goal, setting up Rheinheimer for another finish and a 2-0 advantage.

Rheinheimer completed the hat trick in the 84th minute, finishing a chance created by Jessie Newton to extend the lead to three. Southwest Baptist found a late goal, but Quincy closed out the 3-1 victory.

The Hawks finished with a 19-6 advantage in shots and a 9-2 edge in shots on goal. Rheinheimer accounted for seven shots, putting six on target, while Newton added five attempts and an assist.

Goalkeeper Libby Kamp played all 90 minutes and made one save as Quincy earned its fifth GLVC victory of the season.

Rheinheimer and Newton Lead the Attack

Quincy enters Wednesday with 23 goals through 14 matches while allowing just 12.

Rheinheimer and Newton continue to lead the Hawks' attack and have combined for 26 goal contributions this season. Rheinheimer leads Quincy with 10 goals and two assists for a team-high 22 points.

She has generated 54 shots, including 28 on goal, and enters Wednesday following her first hat trick in a Quincy uniform.

Newton has played a major role in creating those opportunities. The senior leads Quincy with 12 assists while adding two goals of her own, giving her 16 points. Her 12 assists have made her one of the most productive playmakers in the GLVC.

The Hawks will look for the duo, along with the rest of the attacking unit, to carry Saturday's offensive momentum into their final home appearance of the regular season.

Final Home Match With Three Remaining

Wednesday marks Quincy's final regular-season match at Legends Stadium.

Following the matchup with Upper Iowa, the Hawks will close the regular season with road contests against Lincoln and Truman State.

That leaves only three opportunities for Quincy to add to its conference point total before the GLVC Tournament field is finalized. The Hawks enter Wednesday tied with Rockhurst for fifth place with 19 points.

UMSL leads the conference with 28 points, followed by McKendree with 24 and Missouri S&T with 23. Maryville currently occupies fourth place with 21 points, leaving Quincy just two points outside the final position that would host a GLVC Tournament quarterfinal.

Illinois Springfield follows Quincy with 17 points, while Truman holds the eighth and final tournament position with 15.

The top eight teams advance to the GLVC Tournament, with the top four seeds earning the right to host the opening round. A victory Wednesday would move Quincy to 22 points and could push the Hawks into a top-four position depending on results elsewhere in the conference.

Defense Remains a Strength

While the Hawks found their offensive rhythm against Southwest Baptist, defense has remained one of Quincy's most consistent strengths throughout the season. Quincy has allowed just 12 goals through 14 matches, keeping the Hawks in nearly every contest.

Kamp has started each of the last three matches in goal and has helped Quincy continue that defensive form during an important stretch of the conference schedule.

The Hawks will look to maintain that consistency against an Upper Iowa side that has struggled to generate offense.

Scouting Upper Iowa

Upper Iowa enters Wednesday still searching for its first victory of the season.

The Peacocks are 0-10-3 overall and 0-10-1 in conference play after Saturday's 5-0 loss against Drury.

Upper Iowa has scored just five goals through 13 matches while allowing 42. The Peacocks have generated 67 shots, averaging approximately 5.2 per contest.

Their offensive struggles have become especially pronounced over the last several weeks.

Upper Iowa has been shut out in six consecutive matches since a 1-1 draw against William Jewell on September 19. The Peacocks have been outscored 27-0 during that stretch.

Maryn Hudson has accounted for three of Upper Iowa's five goals this season. Haylie Hutchinson has added one goal and two assists and earlier this season became the first Peacock to earn GLVC Offensive Player of the Week honors.

Upper Iowa has used multiple goalkeepers.

Avery Harding has appeared in nine matches and recorded 84 saves while allowing 23 goals. Suzette Orta has also seen significant time, making 29 saves across five appearances.

The Peacocks are in their third season competing in the GLVC after finishing 4-12-2 overall and 2-11-1 in conference action last year. Upper Iowa entered the season with 13 returning players and 17 newcomers, including 16 freshmen.

The program is led by second-year head coach Patrick Ritter.

Series History

Since Upper Iowa joined the GLVC in 2023, Quincy is 2-0-1 against the Peacocks. The Hawks earned a 2-0 victory at Legends Stadium last season.

Quincy opened the scoring in the 27th minute when former Hawk Ella Wolfard found the back of the net. Emma Tell doubled the advantage 10 minutes later, sending Quincy into halftime with a 2-0 lead.

The Hawks continued to control the match after the break and finished with a 21-5 advantage in shots. Goalkeeper Devin Tracy made three saves to preserve the shutout as Quincy secured the conference victory.

Matchup Outlook

Quincy enters Wednesday with an opportunity to build on one of its strongest offensive performances of the conference season.

Rheinheimer's hat trick against Southwest Baptist and Newton's continued production as a creator give the Hawks momentum heading into a matchup with an Upper Iowa defense that has surrendered 42 goals.

At the other end, Quincy will look to avoid giving life to a Peacocks attack that has gone six consecutive matches without scoring.

With the GLVC standings tightly packed and only three matches remaining, the Hawks have little room to waste opportunities.

Three points Wednesday would move Quincy to 22 and strengthen its push for a top-four seed while providing a winning finish to the regular-season home schedule at Legends Stadium.

Kickoff between Quincy and Upper Iowa is scheduled for 3 PM Wednesday at Legends Stadium.
