Hawks’ Fourth-Quarter Surge Downs UIndy for Third Straight Win

QUINCY, Ill. – Quincy picked up its third straight GLVC victory on Saturday afternoon, knocking off the University of Indianapolis 71–58 inside Pepsi Arena. After three tight quarters, the Hawks exploded for 28 points in the fourth to pull away and secure the win.

Indianapolis struck first, jumping out to an 11–7 lead behind strong interior play and a perfect 4-for-4 showing at the free-throw line. Hampton Williams got Quincy going early with a pair of buckets, but turnovers slowed the Hawks' offensive rhythm.

After a brief scoring drought for both teams, the Greyhounds closed the quarter on a 6–2 run, attacking the paint and getting to the line to take a 19–13 lead after one. UIndy finished the quarter 8-for-10 at the stripe, while Quincy committed seven turnovers.

The Greyhounds carried that momentum into the second, scoring the first two baskets to stretch the lead to 10. A Quincy timeout proved pivotal. Coach Ali Schwagmeyer-Belger went deep into her bench, and the Hawks responded with a 13–4 run over the next three minutes.

Olivia Lawson fueled the rally with two triples, including a four-point play, while Maddie Casey added another from deep as Quincy pulled within one at 27–26. In the final seconds of the half, Reagan Reed drilled QU's fourth three of the quarter, giving the Hawks their first lead of the game, 30–29, heading into halftime.

Quincy picked up right where it left off, opening the second half with a Blair Eftink three. Indianapolis answered with an 8–4 run to regain the lead at 41–38, but the Hawks countered once again. Reed knocked down a pair of free throws, and Eftink buried her second triple of the quarter to push QU back in front.

A Greyhound layup at the buzzer tied the game at 43–43 heading into the fourth. Despite shooting just 4-of-14 in the quarter, Quincy stayed even thanks to six Indianapolis turnovers.

The final 10 minutes belonged to the Hawks. Quincy opened the quarter on a 13–8 run, shooting 5-of-7 from the field with six points from Peters to grab a five-point cushion. Patricia Chikamba kept UIndy within striking distance, scoring all eight of the Greyhounds' early fourth-quarter points.

After a brief scoreless stretch, Lawson buried her third three of the game to make it 59–51 with three minutes left. Chikamba answered again, but a Katey Flynn triple and back-to-back Hayven Harden layups sealed it. Quincy added five free throws in the final minute to close out the 71–58 victory.

Quincy outscored Indianapolis 28–15 in the fourth, shooting 8-of-11 from the field and 3-of-3 from deep, while forcing six Greyhound turnovers.

Quincy shot 49 percent from the field compared to 41.5 percent for Indianapolis, with the biggest difference coming from beyond the arc. The Hawks went 9-of-18 from three, while the Greyhounds were held to just 3-of-14.

The Hawks assisted on 21 of their 24 made baskets and got another big boost from the bench with 28 points, their fourth straight game with at least 25 bench points. Indianapolis held a slim 33–31 rebounding edge, and turnovers were nearly even (15 for QU, 17 for UIndy).

Four Hawks scored in double figures, led by Peters and Eftink with 12 apiece. Flynn added 11, and Lawson posted a season-high 10. Flynn and Peters each recorded career-high seven assists, while Reed, Peters, Flynn, and Williams all grabbed at least five rebounds.

Quincy will look to keep its momentum rolling on Thursday, January 15, when the Hawks head to Upper Iowa for a rematch. The Peacocks defeated QU 91–83 earlier this season after knocking down 17 three-pointers inside Pepsi Arena. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:00 PM from Fayette, Iowa, inside the Dorman Memorial Gymnasium.
