Hawks Soar in Season Opener with 5-0 Rout Behind Moreno and Cann

QUINCY, Ill. - For the first time since 2016, Quincy men's soccer opened its season with a victory, and it came in emphatic fashion Thursday afternoon at Legends Stadium. The Hawks overwhelmed Wisconsin–Parkside 5–0, snapping a five-match losing skid to the Rangers and putting a statement win on the board to start 2025.

Quincy wasted no time asserting control. In just the fourth minute, Leo Cann finished a feed from Mathias Bringedal to give the Hawks an early 1–0 lead. That advantage held through halftime, as Quincy piled up pressure, but Parkside's keeper made several key stops to keep it close.

The second half was all Hawks. In the 66th minute, Carlos Moreno Henao doubled the lead with a composed finish to make it 2–0. Fifteen minutes later, Cann struck again off another assist from Bringedal, his second goal of the afternoon stretching the margin to 3–0.

Quincy kept its foot on the gas, as Moreno Henao added his second goal in the 88th minute off a penalty kick after a handball in the box. Josh Nwosu capped the afternoon just over a minute later with an easy goal off the deflection of another shot to complete the 5-0 rout.

The numbers told the story of dominance: Quincy outshot Parkside 24–11 with 10 shots on goal, while goalkeeper Jake Offerman earned a clean sheet in his first career start, picking up his first career win and shutout, only needing a pair fo saves behind a disciplined back line.

Cann and Moreno Henao each finished with two goals, Bringedal tallied two assists, and Nwosu's late strike sealed Quincy's most lopsided win over Parkside in years.

The Hawks will be back in action on Sunday, September 7, as they take on Purdue University Northwest, traveling to Hammond, Indiana, with kickoff set for noon at Dowling Park.
