QUINCY, Ill. - Quincy University Athletics has announced the promotion of
Abbie Belknap as the new head coach of the women's lacrosse program. Belknap, who has served on staff since January 2024, becomes the program's second head coach and takes over following two seasons as an assistant.
During her time at Quincy, Belknap has already made a major impact on the Hawks. She helped guide the team to its first-ever GLVC Tournament appearance in 2024, a historic milestone for the program. That same season, Quincy earned six All-GLVC honors, including the league's Goalie of the Year award. The Hawks followed that with three more all-conference selections in 2025, continuing to build momentum in one of the nation's toughest Division II conferences.
"I feel so blessed to take over this program from Coach Kit," Belknap said. "Kit has set a great foundation, and I hope to continue to build on its success. She has been a wonderful mentor and impacted everyone here at Quincy."
Before arriving in Quincy, Belknap served as an assistant coach with the St. Louis Samurai Lacrosse Club, where she focused on developing players ages 12–18 through advanced training and competitive play. She joined the Samurai staff in 2020 and remains deeply connected to the St. Louis lacrosse community.
As a player, Belknap starred for Stony Brook University's Division I club team, where she was a three-year team president. She led the Seawolves in points and caused turnovers while helping the program post back-to-back undefeated seasons in 2021 and 2022.
A native of St. Louis, Missouri, Belknap played at Marquette High School, where she was named first-team all-conference in 2018. She also helped lead her team to Missouri Class 4A state runner-up and third-place finishes and was selected to play in the Roslyn L. Schulte Memorial All-Star Game her senior year.
Belknap earned her B.S. in Marine Science with a minor in Ecosystem and Human Impacts from Stony Brook University.
With Belknap now at the helm, Quincy looks to build on its recent success and continue climbing the GLVC ranks.
