QUINCY, Ill. — Quincy sprint football opened its 2025 season at QU Stadium on Saturday, September 13, but could not overcome a physical Calumet College squad, falling 18–0 in the home opener.
The Hawks had chances early, including a goal-line stand on defense and a 71-yard drive on offense, but came away empty. Calumet struck first with a 48-yard field goal late in the first quarter, then added a 37-yard touchdown pass just before halftime to take a 9–0 lead into the break.
In the third quarter, Calumet extended the margin with a 2-yard touchdown run to make it 15–0, and a 35-yard field goal in the fourth sealed the scoring. Despite several drives into Warrior territory, the Hawks were unable to break through, including a missed 47-yard field goal attempt in the third.
Quarterback
Nick Manzo threw for 122 yards, highlighted by a 45-yard connection to
Nasir Carson, while
Gregory Quince added 34 receiving yards. On the ground,
CJ Jackson struggled to get things going, totaling 38 rushing yards on 16 attempts.
Defensively, the Hawks battled hard, finishing with nine tackles for loss and a sack.
Donnell Packer led all players with 14 total stops, while
Kaden Buchholz contributed nine tackles, including 2.5 for loss.
Noah Getz recorded the team's lone sack of the game and the fourth of his career.
Calumet controlled possession for nearly 48 minutes to Quincy's 20, outgaining the Hawks 330–173 in total yards. Still, Quincy's defense forced a turnover and repeatedly came up with stops in the red zone to limit further damage.
The Hawks will aim to get their first win of the season as they go on the road to take on Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College on Saturday, September 20. Kickoff is set for 2:00 PM from Jay Barrett Field in West Terre Haute, Indiana.
