Quincy Baseball Recognized with Four All-GLVC Honorees

QUINCY, Ill. – The Great Lakes Valley Conference announced the 2025 All-Conference selection for baseball on Tuesday (May 6). Quincy had two First Team honorees in Matt Mateo and Roman Harrison to go along with Ben Dahlof and Kobe Essien as Honorable Mentions.

In his first season with the Hawks, Matt Mateo was named First Team All-GLVC and was a staple in the QU batting order, leading the team in hits (65), home runs (14), triples (3), runs (57), total bases (119), slugging percentage (.647), and OPS (1.099). He also hit .353 and drove in 53 runs, both second on the team. Mateo's numbers put him top five in the GLVC in runs, home runs, RBIs, and total bases, and top ten in hits, triples, and hit-by-pitches. Mateo earned GLVC player of the week after going 10-19 with four home runs, one triple, and 10 RBIs in four games against Drury.

Roman Harrison earned First Team All-GLVC honors after an outstanding junior season on the mound for Quincy. In his third year with the program, Harrison led all qualified Hawk pitchers in ERA (4.17), WHIP (1.30), strikeouts (67), and the fewest earned runs allowed (27). Over 58.1 innings pitched across 15 appearances, including seven starts, one save, and one complete game, as he held opponents to a .225 batting average. His dominance placed him among the GLVC's best, ranking 6th in ERA, 6th in opponent batting average, and 5th in earned runs allowed. Since moving into a full-time starting role during conference play, Harrison has been arguably the top starter in the league, posting a 3.15 ERA over 37.2 innings and giving up just 13 runs.

Ben Dahlof was named Honorable Mention All-GLVC after a strong third season with Quincy, where he served as the Hawks' primary leadoff and No. 2 hitter throughout the year. A catalyst at the top of the lineup, Dahlof led the team in batting average (.388), on-base percentage (.464), and stolen bases (21). He also scored 44 runs, collected 64 hits, including seven doubles and three home runs, and drove in 23. His consistency and ability to get on base made him one of the GLVC's most effective top-of-the-order bats, finishing 8th in the league in batting average and tied for 7th in stolen bases.

Kobe Essien earned Honorable Mention All-GLVC honors in his fifth season with the Hawks, anchoring the pitching staff as the team's primary Game One starter. A veteran presence on the mound, Essien led Quincy in innings pitched (66.0) and delivered two complete games, including a dominant complete-game shutout against one of the best offenses in the country in Lewis. He finished the season with a 3-1 record across 13 starts, posting a 5.05 ERA, second-best on the team, and a 1.45 WHIP. Essien also tallied 62 strikeouts, tied for second-most among Quincy pitchers, consistently setting the tone in series openers with his competitive edge and durability.

These four Hawks helped lead the team to its 14th consecutive GLVC Championship Tournament appearance and will take the field once again, looking to continue their great seasons on Wednesday (May 7), as the Hawks take on Maryville University in round one of the GLVC Championship Tournament.
