Quincy, Ill. - The Quincy University women's lacrosse team completed their home slate on Saturday afternoon (Apr. 19) with nationally-ranked Maryville University. The #5 Saints had an offensive burst to start, overtaking the Hawks 21-6.Â
The Saints had a quick start, scoring 13 unanswered goals in the first quarter. Quincy gathered its bearings in the second, and found Aurora Jason open in the middle of a Saints pack for the first goal of the day. Alaina Wilkinson found Jason on a run in behind the crease, setting her up for success. Wilkinson got a goal of her own halfway through the quarter, after a sprinkling of goals from the Hawks. Â
The third quarter was historic for the Hawks with junior Amelia Ham notching her 79th point on a free position goal to take the single season points crown. The Hawks saw a reverse of their first goal at the end of the quarter, Jason dishing Wilkinson after a caused turnover from Jason. Quincy's defense settled in, limiting the high-powered Saints to just four shots in the third quarter. Madison Whiting Wagner, made six saves on the afternoon, one in the third quarter.Â
Ham notched her second goal of the game to start the fourth quarter, making her own path toward the goal in a power play. Maryville ramped up offensive production in the fourth quarter, matching the Hawks' six shots. The Saints scored four unanswered goals to end the game, 21-6.Â
Emily Leal and Anni Moran dominated the circle with draw controls, Leal with six and Moran with five controls. Elise Bruggeman led the Hawks with three ground balls in the contest.Â
Quincy will look to bounce back in their next matchup and continue building toward a strong finish in the final stretch of the season. Quincy's final weekend calls for a trip to Lewis and Indianapolis.Â
