Hawks Swept by Blue Tigers

Jefferson City, Mo. - The Quincy University softball team faced a new conference foe in Lincoln University (Mo.) on Sunday afternoon (Apr. 13). The Hawks faced a defensively strong Lincoln team on Sunday and were swept by the Blue Tigers in 2-0 and 10-2 finishes.

Game One
The Blue Tigers started off the day with a solo shot over right center. The Hawks battled at the plate, but the Blue Tigers' fielding eliminated chances for the Hawks to get on base. The Hawks got Allison Kaiser to third on a sacrifice bunt but were quickly spoiled with a line drive and strikeout.

The Blue Tigers found success again after getting Lincoln's Lang tripled and came home on a sacrifice bunt. Quincy's big moments came in the seventh inning when three straight singles from Emma Stieferman, Kaiser, and Jessie Martin loaded the bases. The Blue Tigers were smart, however, and on Lindsey Fischer's hit, sent the ball home for the force out.

The Hawks outhit the Blue Tigers 5-3 with Kaiser leading the pack with two hits. Kaelyn Conger started in the circle and struck out two batters.

Game Two
Quincy responded well in game two, taking advantage of Isabella Shields' lead-off walk. Martin moved Shields to second with a sacrifice bunt and Moss nabbed her 15th double of the season, sending Shields home for their first run of the day. The Blue Tigers fought back at the bottom of the inning and put up three runs on three hits. After a scoreless inning for the Hawks in the second, Lincoln's offense had a burst of effort, adding five runs in the second inning.

Fischer added to the Hawks' tally in the fourth inning, hitting the first home run of her career. Shields kept the party going with a single to third, but the Hawks were sent back out to the field on the next at bat.

Kaidence Dumas and Stieferman split the pitching duties in the second game and each pitched two innings.

The Hawks face Central Missouri in their final midweek game on Wednesday, April 16th at home. Game one will kick off at 2 p.m.
