Extra Base Hits for Tritons Hurt Hawks in Sweep

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 St. Louis, Mo. - The Quincy University softball team took a trip down the Mississippi River to Missouri-St. Louis on Saturday afternoon (Apr. 12) for a conference matchup against the Tritons. The Hawks spirits were spoiled in game one on a late walk off home run from the Tritons, losing 4-3. Big hits from the Tritons in game two overtook the Hawks 6-1.

Game One
Kaelyn Conger got the Hawks started on defense with two strikeouts on the lead-off batters. Three straight singles loaded the bases for the Tritons, but Jessie Martin nabbed a line drive to end the inning. The Tritons got on the board in the second inning off an error.

Quincy's offense got rolling and took the lead in the fourth inning. Kinsey Biggerstaff got around on a double from Kenzie Moss. Moss made her way home on a Jessie Martin sacrifice fly out to left field to take the lead. Missouri-St. Louis took advantage of a walk in the bottom of the inning to even the board.

Moss started the train again in the sixth inning to help the Hawks to a third run. She singled to third and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt from Allyson Maynard. Martin soared a hit over to the right fielder who dropped the ball, bringing in Moss in the process. A pitching change from the Tritons ended the Hawks' half inning promptly.

Missouri-St. Louis tallied another run in the bottom of the sixth inning off a deep double to center field. The Hawks had their bats moving in the seventh inning, but fell short to the Tritons' fielding. A solo shot over center field was the difference for the Tritons, as they took game one in a 4-3 victory.

Game Two
A two-out double from the Tritons in the bottom of the first inning put the Hawks under from the start. The Hawks experienced some deja vu in the second inning with another two-run double in the second inning. Emma Stieferman responded in the top of the third inning with a double of her own but was later stranded due to the Tritons' fielding once again.

The Hawks did not have many opportunities to cut the deficit through the first half of play but found some holes in the Tritons' defense in the sixth inning. Isabella Shields started the party battling at the plate and earning herself a single up the middle. Moss hit one hard down the right field line to bring in Shields for the Hawks lone run of the game. Missouri-St. Louis's Spahiev hit her second home run of the day to seal the Tritons' win in the sixth inning.

Allison Kaiser and Moss led the Hawks with three hits a piece, though Moss led the Hawks in power hits with two RBI doubles on the day. Kaidence Dumas and Stieferman split game two on the mound with two strikeouts from Dumas.

The Hawks look to get back into the green with a two-game stand at new-to-the-GLVC Lincoln University on Sunday. The Hawks are 12-3 with the Blue Tigers in non-conference play and hope to start off the conference slate with a win.
