Hawks Draw Grand Valley State in NCAA Midwest Regional

Indianapolis, Ind. - After a triumphant Great Lakes Valley Conference Championship win on Sunday afternoon (Mar. 9), the Quincy University women's basketball team earned an automatic bid into the NCAA Division II Basketball Tournament and drew #1 Grand Valley State University as their first opponent. The Hawks faced Grand Valley State, at the time ranked No. 1 in the nation, in December, and fell to the Lakers 73-58 at home.

Quincy came into the GLVC tournament as the third seed with a 22-7 record (16-4 GLVC) and took down Missouri S&T, Drury, and Maryville for the crown. Nicole McDermott and Cymirah Williams ran both sides of the ball for the Hawks, each scoring in the doubles in all three games. Williams recorded three straight double-doubles in the conference tournament with 31 rebounds on the weekend.

The Hawks are no strangers to rematches. Prior to the GLVC Tournament, the Hawks fell to both Drury and Maryville in the regular season, both in heated fashion. Quincy's game against the GVSU Lakers in December was the closest an opponent had kept to Grand Valley State thus far, and Quincy is of four teams to keep the deficit to 15 points or under all season.

Grand Valley State won their third straight Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletics Conference title and earned themselves an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament as well. The Lakers average 84 points a game with a scoring margin of 31 points. Despite the Hawks winning 18 of their games this season by over 10 points, the Hawks offense will need to increase their load to compete with one of the best shooting teams in the country.

The Hawks will face Grand Valley State at 5 p.m. EDT on Friday, March 14th in Allendale, Michigan. Tickets can be purchased at https://gvsutickets.universitytickets.com/ .
