QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University women's tennis team delivered a commanding performance on Saturday, shutting out Simpson College 7-0 at the Quincy Racquet Club. The victory evens the Hawks' record at 4-4 on the season.
Quincy set the tone early in doubles play, winning all three matches to claim the first point of the afternoon. Mahi Panchal and Katrin Ismailova controlled the No. 1 court with a 6-0 win, while Ana Alvarez and Anna Matino matched that scoreline at No. 2. Nora Hennessy and Brittney Kelly secured a default victory at No. 3, giving the Hawks a clean sweep in doubles competition.
In singles play, the Hawks continued their dominance, not dropping a single set. Panchal cruised past Coilee Hynek 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1, and Ismailova delivered an identical 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 2 against Gema Gonzalez. Alvarez and Matino were flawless in their matches, each posting 6-0, 6-0 victories at No. 3 and No. 4, respectively.
Hennessy battled through a competitive 6-4 first set at No. 5 before going on to take her match with Grace Peck in straight sets. Kelly completed the sweep with a default victory at No. 6.
The Hawks will look to build on this strong performance when they travel to Moline, IL, to face St. Ambrose on Sunday, March 9, at 1:00 PM.
