QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University women's tennis team kicked off its spring season with a non-conference showdown against the Saints of Maryville on Saturday (Feb. 8), dropping the match by a 7-0 score.
Katrin Ismailova had the top showing of the day for Quincy, taking the first set of her singles match over Victoria Lisson 7-5 before dropping the next set 1-6 and the match tiebreak 6-10.
Ana Alvarez put up a strong fight in her singles match against Luana Luersen, dropping the first set 4-6 before giving the Saints No. 3 player all she could handle in a 6-7 [2-7] defeat.
Mahi Panchal and
Anna Matino fell in their matches 4-6, 2-6 and 2-6 4-6, respectively. Defeats for
Nora Hennessy and
Brittney Kelly rounded out singles action for the Hawks.
Panchal and Ismailova took three games from Luersen and Carolina Velazquez in a 3-6 loss in doubles action as the pairing of Alvarez and Matino were bested 6-1 by Isabella Alvarez and Nazli Saka and the duo of Kelly and Hennessy dropped their doubles match to Lisson and Grace Brown 0-6.

The Hawks are back in action tomorrow (Feb. 9), hosting the Vikings of Grand View University for another match scheduled to begin at noon at Quincy Racquet Club.
