QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University men's tennis team had a very strong showing against the Vikings of Grand View University on Sunday afternoon (Feb. 9) at the Quincy Racquet Club, shutting out GVU for an unblemished 7-0 victory, the Hawks' first of the 2025 spring season.
Inigo Villacampa and
Joseph Restrepo got the party started in doubles action with a 6-0 defeat of the GVU pairing of Diego Castillo and Enzo Naveda Canessa. Not to be outdone, the Quincy pairing of
Gianni Lopez and
Rodrigo Coello Trevino also delivered a perfect 6-0 victory over the Vikings's duo of Lars Kruger and Adrian Reyes to secure QU the doubles point. In addition,
Pablo Mateos Niella and
Gerard Abad Puig were bested in their match 4-6.
In singles, Villacampa got the Hawks started with a 6-3, 6-0 defeat of Canessa in his No. 1 singles match. Restrepo added a 6-2, 6-0 beating of Kruger in the No. 2 singles match as Lopez handled Castillo by a 6-1, 6-0 match line.
Abad Puig got the job done against Reyes, taking down the Grand View No. 4 by a 6-1, 6-1 score before
Marko Cucuk secured another point in the No. 6 singles match with a 6-3, 6-4 defeat of Rene De Hoyos.
The final match to finish saw Coello Trevino triumph in a marathon of an event, taking the first set 7-5 before dropping the second 6-7 [5-7] to head to match tiebreaks were Coello Trevino stayed solid, delivering a 10-4 win to claim the match and give the Hawks a perfect 7-0 victory.

The Hawks are back in action next Friday (Feb. 14), making the trip south to St. Louis, MO for a 1:30 PM date with the Spartans of Missouri Baptist University.
