Notre Dame, Ind. - The first STUNT game for Quincy University occurred on Saturday morning (Feb. 15) against Concordia University Chicago as one of four games the Hawks played at the Crossroads Rumble. Quincy's weekend did not go as planned; the Hawks dropped all four games, two to seasoned opponents CUC and Malone University.
Quincy vs. Concordia Chicago
The Hawks opened up their season winning the coin toss and chose to start their match with routine one. The Hawks dropped the point in their first routine, but gained their first program point during the third quarter. The Hawks gained their remaining two points in the fourth quarter, courtesy of their outstanding pyramid and toss capabilities in round seven and partner stunts in round eight. The Hawks dropped their first game 10-3.
Quincy vs. Malone
Quincy faced second-year program Malone University in the afternoon on Saturday. The Pioneers looked sharp and had clean lines throughout their routine, making it very hard for the Hawks to take points throughout the eight-round game. Malone finished the competition with 12 points over the Hawks' zero.
Quincy vs. Purdue Northwest
Sunday brought first-year opponents for the Hawks to face, the first against the Pride of Purdue Northwest. The Hawks won the toss and immediately chose routine two, but struggled in the pyramid lifts. The Hawks scored their only point of the game in round four after producing a clean routine one run-through. Purdue Northwest found success through the final half of play, outscoring the Hawks 12-1.
Quincy vs. Lewis
The Hawks faced Great Lakes Valley Conference opponent Lewis University to round out the weekend. The Hawks again won the coin toss against the Flyers and chose routine two, this time improving on their last game and gaining their first opening point of the weekend. The Flyers stayed quiet through the first half, leaving the Hawks up 1-0 at halftime. Lewis gained two points in quarter three and concluded the game gaining a point each in rounds seven and eight. The Hawks kept their closest game against Lewis, losing just 4-1.
The Hawks return for more action in mid-March, traveling to Missouri Baptist for four more games against Missouri Valley, Maryville, Central Methodist, and a rematch with Concordia Chicago.
