Hawks Respond Well with Win over Saints

Box Score

Crestview Hills, Ky. — The Quincy University women's lacrosse team came into today's game (Feb. 15) with a vengeance. After a tough loss to Ashland University, the Hawks took out all their frustrations on the Saints of Thomas More, cruising to a dominant 24-10 victory.

The Saints struck first, grabbing the lead with an early goal. However, that was the last time they would be ahead. The Hawks responded with four unanswered goals. Amelia Ham, Anni Moran, Emily Leal, and Perrilynn Cory each found the back of the net after the 11-minute mark. The Saints managed to add two more goals in the quarter, but the Hawks kept their foot on the gas, scoring two more before the break. Moran fought for an unassisted goal at 2:47, and just 20 seconds later, Mikenna Ham won the draw, setting up a quick 2-man game with her twin Amelia Ham and Alaina Wilkinson, which resulted in another Hawks goal.

In the second quarter, the Saints found their rhythm, matching the Hawks goal-for-goal. Despite this, the Hawks maintained their lead, heading into halftime with an 11-8 advantage. Moran and Ham were the driving forces in the quarter, each scoring twice. Ham also recorded her first career assist, setting up Cory for a goal.

The third quarter was where the Hawks truly pulled away. They scored eight goals, while the Saints could only manage one. By the start of the fourth, the Hawks had a commanding 19-9 lead. Moran and Ham continued to dominate, each netting two goals to extend the lead.

The Hawks didn't slow down in the final frame, finishing the game with 37 shots on goal to the Saints' 15. Moran led the way with a career-high 9 goals, while Ham followed closely behind with a career-high 7 goals. Five other Hawks found the back of the net, including Cory and MaryGrace Cummings, who both scored the first goals of their collegiate careers. Ham also tied the all-time assist record with 3 assists today, bringing her total to 52 and matching the record set by Patricia Chavira, a Quincy graduate from 2024.

Defensively and in the midfield, the Hawks were also dominant. Mikenna Ham secured 9 of Quincy's 23 draw controls, while goalkeeper Madison Whiting Wagner made 5 saves to keep the Saints at bay.

The Hawks will look to carry this momentum into their next game, which will take place on Wednesday, Feb. 19, against the 2024 regular-season GLVC champions, Maryville University. The game will be held at the Maryville University Athletics Complex at 2:00 p.m.
