NORMANDY, Mo. - The Quincy University men's basketball team got swept up in a double whammy of poor first half shooting and hot UMSL shooting in an 85-62 loss on the road on Thursday evening (Feb. 13) at the Mark Twain Building.
A 36% effort from the field as a team in the opening 20 minutes dug the Hawks a hole they couldn't get out of, trailing the Tritons, who managed nearly 60% in the frame, by 16 points at the half.
UMSL opened with a 9-0 run before QU answered with the next seven points on a jumper from
Max Booher along with a three and layup for
Camren Kincaid.
The Tritons responded with 13 of the next 15 points to build a 24-11 advantage, allowing Quincy no closer than six points at the 6:16 mark before going on a 12-2 run to take a 41-25 edge into the break.
Missouri-St. Louis made life hard for the Hawks to kick off the second half, going on a 27-4 run over the first seven minutes to effectively decide the outcome of the contest as the Hawks outscored the Tritons by 16 over the final 13 minutes, but weren't able to fully close the gap.
Jake Hamilton led the team in all three major categories, dropping in 16 points with two threes to go along with a tie for the team lead in rebounds with six and three assists. Booher also added 12 points with a pair of three pointers.
