KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Quincy University men's soccer team saw its season come to a close on Friday afternoon, falling 2–1 to No. 10 Rockhurst, the top seed in the GLVC Tournament Quarterfinals. The Hawks finish the year with an overall record of 8–7–3, returning to postseason play for the first time since the 2020–21 season and battling one of the nation's top teams down to the final whistle.
Rockhurst struck first in the 20th minute on a well-executed sequence down the left side. A driven cross into the box was flicked toward the far post with precision, glancing off the right upright and in to give the hosts the early advantage. Quincy continued to defend with composure, limiting Rockhurst's chances in the run of play, and trailed 1–0 into halftime.
Early in the second half, Rockhurst doubled its lead on another clean attacking buildup. A ball served into the heart of the box was redirected with a glancing header just past the reach of goalkeeper
Jake Offerman, making it 2–0 in the 53rd minute. Quincy responded with its best attacking stretch of the day, earning a corner in the 62nd minute that led directly to its lone goal. From the initial service,
Mathias Bringedal rose to meet it, and the loose ball fell to
Lewis Chapman from
Paal Vistnes, who calmly finished with his right foot for his first goal of the season, pulling Quincy back within one.
The Hawks continued to push late, earning a handful of possession spells and forward pressure in the attacking third, but Rockhurst managed the closing minutes effectively to see out the result and advance to the GLVC semifinal round.
Quincy finished the match with nine shots, including four on target, while Rockhurst recorded eight shots with two on goal. Both teams finished with four corner kicks, and Quincy showed strong defensive organization for long stretches, anchored by full-match efforts from Vistnes, Ellis, and Moreno Henao. Chapman led the attack with two shots, tallying the Hawks' lone goal, while Bringedal earned the assist, his team-leading fourth of the season.
Rockhurst now moves on to face Maryville in the GLVC semifinals. For Quincy, the loss concludes a competitive and resilient 2025 campaign that saw strong contributions from both veteran leadership and emerging talent, a postseason return, and performances that put the program firmly back into the GLVC postseason conversation.
