Hawks Cruise Past Southwest Baptist with 3–0 Sweep

BOLIVAR, Mo. – The Quincy University women's volleyball team rolled to its fourth straight win on Saturday afternoon, sweeping Southwest Baptist in straight sets (25–18, 25–17, 25–17) to improve to 17–5 overall and 6–2 in GLVC play.

The Hawks wasted no time jumping out to an early lead as Zeynep Cetin and Janelle Pye-Blacknard tallied early kills and Elena Kasavica added a service ace to make it 6–1. Quincy pushed the advantage to 15–9 before SBU clawed back within one after scoring six of the next seven points. From there, the Hawks leaned on their go-to attacker, Susanna Beretti, who delivered five kills in the final stretch to close out a 25–18 win. Quincy hit just .095 in the frame but limited the Bearcats to a .000 clip with seven kills and seven errors on 39 attempts.

Southwest Baptist opened with a 5–3 lead, but a four-point Hawk burst swung momentum back to Quincy. The Bearcats battled to a 12–10 advantage behind a small run, but Quincy answered with another four-point streak fueled by Kasavica spreading the ball to three different hitters. After the teams tied at 16, the Hawks surged with nine of the last ten points, highlighted by three more kills from Beretti and a pair of aces from Macey Rocco, to claim a 25–17 set win. Quincy was dominant offensively, hitting .448 with 14 kills on 29 swings and just one error.

For the second straight set, the Bearcats opened strong with five straight points to lead 5–1. Quincy responded quickly, using a six-point run sparked by a pair of middle kills from Erin Matzke to take the lead for good. The Hawks never trailed again, steadily pulling away before finishing the sweep with a 25–17 victory. Quincy added 17 kills at a .256 hitting clip in the final frame while holding SBU to .068.

The Hawks finished with 44 kills on .246 hitting, compared to just 26 kills at .081 for the Bearcats. Quincy's serving and defense also stood out, with five aces, six team blocks, and 57 digs to limit SBU's attack.

Individually, Beretti powered the Hawks with 17 kills on .484 hitting and 13 digs for a double-double, totaling 18 points. Cetin added six kills on .357 hitting, while Pye-Blacknard chipped in nine kills and nine digs. Matzke was efficient in the middle with six kills on .364 hitting. Kasavica orchestrated the offense with 37 assists, nine digs, and a service ace, while Rocco added two service aces from the back line.

The Hawks will continue their road trip on Saturday, November 1st, with a matchup against Illinois Springfield (11–10, 3–5 GLVC). The Prairie Stars enter on a three-match winning streak after pulling out a five-set thriller over Drury. First serve is set for 3:00 PM at the TRAC, a venue where Quincy opened the season with three victories at the UIS Tournament.
