Second-Half Goal Sinks Quincy in Tight Loss to Unbeaten Lincoln

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – The Quincy University men's soccer team dropped a tough 1–0 result on the road Friday against unbeaten Lincoln, as the Blue Tigers continued their impressive season to move to 9-0-4 overall and 7-0-4 in GLVC play. The loss leaves the Hawks level on points with Missouri–St. Louis in the race for the final GLVC Tournament spot.

The game was tight from the start, with both teams trading chances in the first half. Quincy nearly broke through in the 18th minute when Josh Nwosu's shot struck the crossbar, but the Blue Tigers responded with consistent pressure that carried into the second half. Lincoln found the breakthrough just three minutes after the restart when Christopher Hull scored off a feed from Kevon Maitland in the 49th minute. The Hawks nearly answered immediately when Mathias Bringedal forced the Lincoln keeper into a save at 48:26, but they could not find the equalizer.

Statistically, the Blue Tigers held the advantage with a 15–7 edge in shots and a 5–1 margin in shots on goal. Quincy's best looks came from Nwosu, Bringedal, Lewis Chapman, Ryan Myatt, and Leo Cann, but Lincoln's defense held firm. Jake Offerman anchored the Hawks in goal with three saves and was helped by his back line with a critical team save in the 84th minute. Lincoln also hit the woodwork twice in the second half, but Offerman and the defense kept the deficit at one.

The match grew chippy late as fouls piled up, with Quincy finishing with 16 fouls compared to 10 for Lincoln. Both teams saw multiple cautions in the final 10 minutes, including yellow cards issued to Paal Vistnes and Nwosu for the Hawks. Despite a late free kick near the box in the 90th minute, Quincy was unable to level the score.

The Hawks now face a crucial test on Sunday, October 26th, when they return home to host Missouri-St. Louis at 2:30 PM following the women's match at Don Dallas Soccer Field. With Drury's 87th-minute winner over William Jewell moving them up to 18 points, both Quincy and UMSL enter the matchup tied for eighth in the GLVC standings with 16 points each. With just three games remaining, Sunday's contest could prove decisive in determining who claims the final GLVC Tournament berth.
