INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) released its 2025-26 Women's Basketball Preseason Coaches' Poll on Tuesday, with the Quincy University Hawks earning 84 points to be voted 10th in the league standings.
Quincy enters the new campaign under the leadership of first-year head coach
Ali Schwagmeyer-Belger, who takes over a program coming off a historic season. The Hawks captured the 2025 GLVC Tournament Championship, their first since 2005, and earned their first NCAA Tournament appearance since the 2015-16 season. Quincy finished the year with a 25-8 overall record and a 16-4 mark in conference play to secure a third-place league finish.
Schwagmeyer-Belger joins the Hawks after serving as the head coach at John Wood Community College for the 2024-25 season. She inherits a young Quincy roster that returns only three players from last year's championship squad, while welcoming nine freshmen and five transfers. Despite the new faces, the expectations remain high as Schwagmeyer-Belger and her staff continue to build upon the momentum from last year's success. In the poll, Drury was tabbed as the preseason favorite after advancing to last year's GLVC Tournament semifinals as the No. 2 seed, earning 191 points and 10 first-place votes. Maryville followed in second after finishing as the 2025 GLVC runner-up as the No. 5 seed, while Lewis checked in third with four first-place votes. Missouri-St. Louis rounded out the top four.
The Hawks will get their first test in an exhibition matchup on Tuesday, October 28, when they travel to face Western Illinois University. Quincy officially tips off the 2025-26 season at the Midwest Region Crossover in Kirksville, Missouri, taking on Cedarville University on Friday, November 14 at 7:30 PM inside Pershing Arena. The Hawks will then return home for their 2025-26 home opener on Friday, November 21, when they welcome Missouri Southern for the Hansen-Spear Classic with tipoff scheduled for 7:00 PM.
