QUINCY, Ill. - Quincy men's soccer returned to form on Friday evening, earning a 2–0 shutout victory over Drury at Jack Mackenzie Field. The win moved the Hawks to 7–3–2 overall and 5–3–1 in GLVC play.
The Hawks struck first in the 25th minute when
Mathias Bringedal slotted home a finish off an assist from
Lucca Barbero to give Quincy a 1–0 advantage. After halftime, Quincy doubled the lead in the 60th minute when
Carlos Moreno Henao calmly converted a penalty kick, sealing the Hawks' two-goal cushion.
Quincy controlled the attacking flow of the match, outshooting Drury 23–17 and forcing the Panthers' goalkeeper into 10 saves. Bringedal,
Josh Nwosu, and
Carter Venvertloh all generated multiple dangerous looks as the Hawks tallied 12 shots on target. On the other end, goalkeeper
Jake Offerman was sharp, collecting six saves to preserve the clean sheet, his fifth of the season.
The match turned physical down the stretch, with five yellow cards issued between the two sides, but Quincy's back line remained steady to close out the victory.
The Hawks will be back in action on Sunday, October 19, at 2:30 p.m. against Missouri S&T at Legends Stadium, following the women's game. The contest will serve as a Green Out in support of NAMI and mental health awareness.
