Electric First Half Helps Hawks to 750th Program Win

Quincy, Ill. - The Quincy University women's basketball captured the program's 750th win with a 64-53 victory over the University of Missouri-St. Louis on Monday evening (Jan. 20). The Hawks outshot the Tritons 17-3 in the opening five minutes of the game and secured their 6th straight win this season.

The Hawks allowed only one basket and a free throw in the first six minutes of the game while a team effort on offense produced 18 points before the Tritons broke their silence. Quincy went 5 for 5 to open the game and secured four defensive rebounds to shut the Tritons down quickly.

Nicole McDermott had her best outing of 2025 this evening, having scored nine points in the second quarter alone, including five straight points for the Hawks. Quincy shut down the GLVC's fourth best three-point shooting team and forced the Tritons within the paint. The Hawks led 40-29 at the half.

Quincy continued to keep a hefty lead through the third quarter. McDermott drew two and-one opportunities in the paint that gave the Hawks six points and aided in an early bonus. Mikayla Huffine and Taya Stevenson each drew fouls in the final minutes of the third quarter, helping the Hawks to a 17-point lead with 10 minutes to go.

The Hawks had a rough go in the final quarter, but their defense kept the Tritons out of reach. Acheampomaa Danso collected five of her ten rebounds in the final quarter, four of those on defense.

McDermott led the team with 22 points and two steals. Mariann Blass was the only other Hawk in the doubles with 11 points.

The Hawks will host two more home contests this week. Thursday Quincy will face William Jewell at 5:30 p.m. before hosting the Bulldogs of Truman State on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. Thursday night's theme is Youth Sports Night, allowing all children that wear their youth sport's jersey into the game to get in for free.
