Hawks Take Fifth Game in a Row with Win over Peacocks

Quincy, Ill. - The Quincy University women's basketball team brought their win streak up to five games on Saturday afternoon (Jan. 18) with their 72-62 win over Upper Iowa University.

Quincy got on the board first with back-to-back baskets from Cymirah Williams. The Hawks didn't take their feet off the gas and held the lead through the first quarter. Despite low percentages from the field, the Hawks capitalized on an aggressive start from the Peacocks and scored seven points from the line.

Mariann Blass kept quiet in the first ten but gave the Hawks seven points in the second quarter. Blass's lone three pointer of the game was the Hawks' first and helped keep the Hawks' lead after the Peacocks splashed two consecutive threes in 30 seconds. The Peacocks produced their best quarter in the second, yet the Hawks still led at the half, 36-34.

Seven was the number of the night for the Hawks as both Karsyn Stratton and Acheampomaa Danso scored seven each in the third quarter. Danso led the Hawks in points this afternoon and drew two and-one free throw opportunities that helped the Hawks push away from the Peacocks.

The Peacocks saw their first lead of the game halfway through the fourth quarter. Quincy responded within the minute and went on an 11-point run to finish the game and held the Peacocks off the scoreboard for five straight minutes.

Quincy's starters produced all but five points for the Hawks this afternoon, Danso at the top with 15 points. Stratton, Blass, and Williams each had 14 points and Nicole McDermott finished with 10. Williams and Danso each collected nine balls off the boards. Taylor Haase and Williams swatted down three shots each, producing the team's season high nine blocks in a game.

The Hawks continue their week full of home basketball with their make up game against Missouri-St. Louis on Monday. Tip-off will occur at 4 p.m.
