ST.LOUIS, Mo. - The Hawks made the trip down to Maryville for their second GLVC dual of the season, facing off with a nationally ranked foe in the Saints of Maryville.
Sabian Russell,
Zachary Harrington and
Jackson Jones picked up wins for Quincy as the contest was tied at 13-13 after the first six matches before the Saints captured the final four matches of the evening to dispatch QU 33-13.
MU opened the scoring with a decision victory at 125 along with a fall at 133 to jump ahead 9-0. The Hawks answered with a hard-fought 12-11 decision victory from Russell in his 141 match against Hudson Hackbarth, followed up by a 15-0 tech fall win for Harrington over Logan Rubinstein to pull Quincy within a point at 9-8.
The Saints got back on the board with a major decision victory in the 157 match to rebuild the lead to five until Jones picked up a tech fall winner over Nick Baer in his 165 match to even the tally at 13-13.
It was all Maryville from there as a pair of tech falls, a major decision and a fall gave the Saints the final 20 points of the match to close the book on a 33-13 defeat of the Hawks, a nearly 30-point improvement from last season's 49-0 outcome on 1/27.
