Quincy, Ill. - In the second half of the Quincy Hawks soccer doubleheader on Sunday (Sept. 8), the women's soccer team faced Davenport University. The Hawks had many breath-holding chances at net but ultimately fell to the Panthers on a second half penalty kick.
Quincy bounced back strong after Friday night's loss to Saginaw Valley and forced three huge opportunities in the first ten minutes of the game. Sophomore
Reegan Hess ran the ball to the endline and slotted it past the Panthers keeper to a barreling
Ella Wolfard who just missed the ball in front of the net.
Shortly after, Wolfard drew a foul just ten yards from the 18-yard box, setting up Bella Arato in a perfect position for a strike on goal. Arato sent it just below the upper-90, but the Panthers keeper saved the shot again.
The teams came out in the second half physical. Five yellow cards were shown in the second half among the fifteen fouls that were called. The Panthers capitalized on a foul inside the box to score their lone goal of the game.
Julia Mincher minded the net for the Hawks and made seven saves for the Hawks. Mincher was key in crossed balls Sunday afternoon and came out on multiple occasions to diffuse tap-in goals.
The Hawks change the script on Friday as they take their first road trip up to Fayette, Iowa, for a neutral site game against the Beavers of Bemidji State University.
