GRINNELL, IA. - The Quincy University women's tennis team commenced its 2024 fall season with a trip up to Iowa to face a tough DIII opponent in Grinnell College. The Pioneers got the better of the Hawks, taking six of seven points for a 6-1 victory.
Blanca Salas Cruz was a part of both QU wins on the day, taking her one's match over Kalra Utsah (6-2, 7-5) as well as claiming a doubles win with her partner,
Katrin Ismailova.
GC went on to take the remaining two doubles matches to claim the doubles point as well as the remaining singles matches.
Katrin Ismailova dropped her match to Jarvis Erin (5-7, 3-6) while
Ana Alvarez and
Anna Matino both went the distance but were unable to come away on the winning side dropping their matches (3-6, 6-3, 3-6) and (1-6, 6-2, 2-6), respectively.
Nora Hennessy fell to Sydney Marin in her match (0-6, 2-6) while
Brittney Kelly closed out singles action with a defeat to Nehir Ergun to end the contest.
The Hawks are back in action next week, traveling to Decatur on Wednesday (Sep. 11) looking to get back on the right track against the Big Blue of Millikin University.
