Box Score GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Quincy University men's tennis team sent three Hawks to the ITA Midwest Regional Championships held over the weekend (Sep. 28-30) at Davenport University. Inigo Villacampa led QU, picking up four victories in singles action en route to a runner-up finish in the consolation draw of the tournaments top flight. 

Villacampa dropped his opening match of the main draw to Kevin Kovacs of Ferris State (6-4, 1-6, [4-10] before going on a four-match winning streak all the way to the A Flight consolation draw finals. 

The first win for the reigning GLVC Freshman of the Year came against Leon Sell of Michigan Tech (7-6, 6-1) in the round of 32 before taking down Matt Weaver of Tiffin (6-1, 6-4) to reach the quarterfinal. 

Villacampa advanced through the round of eight over David Simeonov of UINDY by withdrawal before taking his semifinal match over Victor Lopes of Grand Valley State (6-3, 6-4).

The run finally came to an end in the A Flight consolation championship, where Villacampa was defeated by retirement due to injury (2-6, 0-3 RET [inj]) losing to the #3 overall seed of the top flight, Ugnius Bickauskis of William Jewell. 

Pablo Mateos Niella picked up the Hawks other victory of the tournament in his first consolation draw match of the B Flight, defeating Justus Peters of Roosevelt (7-6, 6-4). 

Francisco Nique also competed for QU, dropping both of his singles matches in the B Flight. 

The only QU doubles pairing of Nique and Villacampa was unable to win either of their matches in A Flight of doubles action. 

The Hawks are back in action on Wednesday (Oct. 9) traveling to Decatur, IL to take on the Big Blue of Miliken University.
