Lebanon, Ill. - The Quincy University women's lacrosse team traveled down the Mississippi to face the McKendree Bearcats on Friday (April 5). Two minutes made the difference for the Hawks, who fell 11-10 after the Bearcats scored four unanswered goals at the end.
McKendree came out quick with two goals on five shots in the first half of the quarter. The Hawks responded quickly with an
Emily Leal goal shortly after the draw control, but the Bearcats were quick to add one more to the scoreboard before the end of the quarter.
The Hawks flipped the script in the second period, scoring three goals to the Bearcats' one.
Amelia Ham had a hand in the first two goals, first dishing the ball to
Patricia Chavira, then over to Leal to tie the game up.
Danielle Robinson got in the mix with a goal herself.
The Bearcats took over again in the third, scoring three goals to the Hawks' two. This time, Ham started the period with a goal from Chavira and scored an unassisted goal toward the end of the period to keep the game close going into the final quarter.
Leal scored back-to-back goals at the beginning of the fourth quarter to give the Hawks the lead. Ham found
Anni Moran twice to extend the lead to four shortly after. Things were looking good for the Hawks until the final two minutes of the game when McKendree's offense woke up and scored four unanswered goals.
Kelly McClure reigned between the pipes Friday evening, making nine saves on 31 shots faced.
The Hawks face #6 Maryville in St. Louis on Sunday to round out their conference weekend.
