INDIANOLA, IA. - Three Hawks became the first in the programs two-year history to reach the national tournament on Friday (Feb. 23) at the NCWWC Region V Tournament as Trinity Pendergrass, Madeline Barton and Ivana Elliott all placed in the top four in their respective classes to earn a spot in the big one. 

Pendergrass used a bye and a hard-fought 4-3 decision to reach the semifinals of the 116 weight class where she was dealt a tough matchup against Brianna Gonzalez of Iowa who took the match by tech fall. Pendergrass bounced back in the consolation semi, soundly defeating her opponent by tech fall to reach the third place match and secure her spot at the national tournament before eventually dropping the match for a fourth place finish in the 116 division. 

Barton made quick work of her quarterfinal opponent after receiving a bye in the first round of the 136 weight class, winning the match by tech fall. In the semis, Barton was dealt her only loss by Viktorya Torres of McKendree by an 8-2 decision. Barton required less than the allotted time to win in both her consolation semifinal and the the third place match, taking both matches by fall to advance on to the NCWWC National Tournament. 

Ivana Elliott collected a pair of falls and surrendered a pair en route to a fourth place finish in the 191 division. Elliott won her quarterfinal before dropping her semi to Jaycee Foeller of Iowa. Elliott then locked down her trip to the national tournament with a victory in the consolation semifinal before falling in the third place match for a fourth place finish in the 191 weight class. 

Jasmine Hopkins narrowly missed out on the opportunity to qualify and face her teammate, Barton, in the 136 division third place match, but was defeated by Estella Gutches of McKendree in the consolation semifinal to drop to the fifth place match. Barton avenged Hopkins loss by defeating Gutches by fall in the third place bout. 

Next up for the Hawks is the NCWWC National Championship Tournament in Cedar Rapids, IA on Friday and Saturday (Mar. 8-9).
