ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Hawks headed back down to the St. Louis area looking to salvage a split of the weekends contests with a win over the Tritons of Missouri-St. Louis. An icy cold 29% shooting as a team in the second half doomed Quincy in a 61-55 loss.
QU led 5-4 in the early stages on a three and jumper in the paint from
Zion Richardson.
John Kelly III answered the bell, scoring the next two buckets for Quincy on a layup and three-ball to make it 10-7.
UMSL evened the score then took the lead, holding on to a one-to-two possession lead for nearly the next nine minutes until the Hawks got found an equalizer on a jumper from
Isaiah Foster to knot it up at 22-22 with four minutes to play.
In the waning seconds of the first half, Foster hit again, this time from deep to keep his team within a point heading into halftime down 30-29.
Quincy evened the score at 31-31 a little over a minute into the second half and once again at the 14:04 mark and 13:07 mark, but couldn't find a way to get over the hump as the shooting woes began to take their effect heading down the stretch, leading to the win for Missouri-St. Louis.
Richardson led QU in scoring with 16 while Foster added 12 of his own as the only Hawks in double figures.
Next up for the Hawks is a Thursday evening (Feb. 16) GLVC showdown with the Greyhounds of UINDY. Tip-off from Pepsi Arena is slated for 7:30 PM.
