QUINCY, Ill. - The season's largest crowd filled Pepsi Arena for a long awaited rematch of the Hawks and the Hounds in Quincy, a matchup that has gone in favor of QU for the last three meetings. This time it was UINDY that got it done, snapping the streak to hand the Hawks a 68-75 loss.
Quincy out-shot UINDY in the first half, hitting on 50% of the shots they took for a potent offensive strike that kept QU right in the mix. The Greyhounds utilized the three ball for just under half of their scoring in the first half, hitting at 54% from range for 18 of their 37 first half points.
The Hawks trailed the leagues top team by only a single point at the halftime break after trailing 0-8 to open the game and coming to lead by as many as three around the seven minute mark on a jumper from
Zion Richardson.
QU hung around for most of the second half until late in the game, under the five minute mark, when the Hounds pressed their advantage to 13. The Hawks fervently slashed away at the advantage as time marched on, trailing by only five just two minutes later on a deep one from
Isaiah Foster, who also led the team in scoring with 15.
Alas, the comeback bid was not to be as Indianapolis turned back the Hawks effort to make things interesting in the games final minutes, hitting a big three and knocking down free throws to withstand the battle in Pepsi and come out the other end with the victory.
Next up for the Hawks is a showdown with the Flyers of Lewis University for the season's penultimate home game on Saturday (Feb. 17). Tip-off is slated for 3:00 PM from lovely Pepsi Arena.
