Liberty, Mo. - The Quincy University women's soccer team was bested by the Cardinals of William Jewell College 3-2 on Friday evening (Oct. 4). The Hawks had 19 shots to the Cardinals' 12 but struggled to find the back of the net.
The first ten minutes of the game were filled with shots, mostly from Quincy. The Hawks fell under at the end of first half, with a shot from outside the box that floated to the opposite upper corner.
The Hawks came out in the second half with grit.
Lisa Albarran forced a tough save from the Cardinals' goalkeeper early in the half, shortly followed by the tying goal from
Reegan Hess. Hess went on a pressured breakaway run and slotted the ball to the bottom right corner. Jewell came back with a tap in goal off a free kick and save from
Julia Mincher.
Dache Johnson scored her second goal of the season in exciting fashion. Johnson did a bicycle kick to get the Hawks back in the game with nine minutes remaining.
The Cardinals responded quickly with another goal just a minute later to take the lead once again. Despite pushes forward to get the game back in their hands, the Hawks fell to the Cardinals 3-2.
Micher made four saves in the match.
The Hawks will travel to Kirksville, Missouri, on Sunday to take on the Bulldogs of Truman State University.
