Springfield, Ill. - The Quincy University cross country team competed at the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championship this morning, hosted by the University of Illinois Springfield. The men finished 12th of 13 teams and the women finished 13th of 14 teams.
Katie Park led the pack in the women's 6K with a 24:47.1. She takes the title of second-fastest time in program history, taking over Athena Lesiotis'Â time by .5 seconds. Next across the line was freshman
Ava Certa with a 27:05.3 time, a personal best to end the season.Â
Brianna Obermaier finished third for the Hawks at 27:14.9 with
Carlie Davis not too far behind her at 28:37.1.
Sofia Coglianese rounded out the Hawks at 29.17.4.
Thomas Hess crossed the finish line first for the Hawks on the men's side, running a 28:19.5 for the 8K.
Jude Mintle was not too far from him, with a 5:46 mile pace, clocking in at 28.41.1. Both men rank in Quincy's top ten times for the 8K,Â
Next up for the Hawks were
Vinny Olson and
Owen Weinfurtner. Finishing back-to-back, Olson posted a 29:49 and Weinfurtner posted a 29:51.
The Hawks gear up now for the indoor track season which will begin in December.Â
