Box Score Kansas City, Mo. - The Quincy University women's basketball team kept a tight sheet with the Rockhurst University Hawks on Wednesday evening (Jan. 3). Freshman
Mariann Blass led the pack with a career-high 16 points, yet the Hawks fell 69-60.
Defense was strict at the Mason-Halpin Field House to start. Rockhurst broke through the Quincy defense two minutes in with two free throws. The Quincy Hawks got on the board shortly later with a quick jumper from
Cymirah Williams. After trailing the first quarter by three, the Hawks pushed through with a promising 16 points from five different players in the second quarter. Hawks crept closer to the Rockhurst Hawks' lead in the second quarter, only trailing by one point after the half.
Blass took care of business in the second half, scoring 13 of her 16 points in the latter two quarters. She went five for nine in the second half, and was overall efficient in the game, scoring all of her points in just 22 minutes of playing time. The Hawks scored 18 points in the paint during the second half, led by Blass and Williams.
Williams recorded her 6th double-double this evening with 14 points and 15 rebounds. After this evening, she is second in the GLVC in defensive rebounds while
Acheampomaa Danso is second for offensive rebounds.
The Hawks look to rebound from tonight on Saturday when they face the Southwest Baptist Bearcats at home.
