A Turning Point for the Hawks; Send Bulldogs Home Defeated

Quincy, Ill. - The Quincy University women's basketball team felt a sigh of relief after Thursday night's matchup against the Truman State Bulldogs as they checked another task off their to-do list--to win a conference game at home. The Hawks fought hard against the Bulldogs, overtaking the team 78-75.

After two tough conference losses last week, The Hawks had to find a way to flip the page on the season, that, after this evening's game was half over. The Hawks and Bulldawgs battled the first half of the game, going point for point multiple times and keeping the different to one point at halftime. Quincy scored the bulk of its points in the second quarter with nearly every player who checked in adding to the scoreboard.

The Hawks were hot in the third quarter, starting with a three-minute string of plays without a break. Cymirah Williams had two key steals, the first gave the lead back to the Hawks. Quincy was energetic in the paint this quarter, scoring eight points and securing 11 rebounds. The Hawks finished the quarter ahead for the first time since leading Northern Michigan in Northern Michigan.

The fire didn't stop for the Hawks in the final quarter of play. The Bulldogs fought back, going point for point with the Hawks. The Hawks pushed through with a new level of grit they hadn't tapped into this season. Mikayla Huffine extended the lead after a misplay from Truman State gave her a fast break layup. The Hawks didn't fall behind again after this play and won their first conference game at home.

Williams led the Hawks in points and rebounds with fifteen points and fourteen rebounds. Janiece Dawson also had fifteen points.
