Quincy, Ill. – The Quincy University men's soccer program dropped its season opener to the University of Wisconsin-Parkside on Thursday (August 31). The Rangers topped the Hawks 5-3.
Coming off a trip to the NCAA Sweet Sixteen last season, Parkside started off hot with three shots on net before scoring a clean upper ninety goal in the 10
th minute. Hawks goalkeeper
George Roke was strong between the pipes for Quincy in these first moments of the game.
Lewis Chapman responded to the Rangers with a goal off the corner kick to even the score in the 20
th minute. Parkside responded with two more crafty goals to end the first half.
Parkside kept the train moving with another goal at beginning of the second half. Carter Ventvertloh responded five minutes later with a steamer to the far post putting the Hawks back in play.
The hot sun and the new turf at Jack Mackenzie Field were the cause of many cramp injuries during the second half. Parkside found the net once more halfway through the half. Junior transfer
Rennato Ramos took advantage of some Ranger miscommunication and added a final tally to the Hawks' side of the board.
Roke locked down the game with 11 saves, including three key saves that kept the Hawks in the game.
The Hawks take the road to Marquette, Michigan to play Northern Michigan University on Sunday, September 3
rd. Another game on the road at Purdue Northwest on Tuesday (Sept. 5) will set the Hawks up for a three-game home stretch beginning next Saturday against Newman University.
