Quincy, Ill. – The Quincy University baseball team dropped the first game of the Super Regional to the University of Indianapolis Greyhounds on Friday (May 26). Hawks gave up two runs top of the eighth, giving UIndy the lead.
Spencer Walker got the nod for the mound today, working 7.2 innings and striking nine, five looking. Walker limited the Greyhounds to five hits. Walker moved up to third in program history for strikeouts and fourth in program history for innings pitched during his performance Friday.
The Hawks started strong with leadoff
Gino D'Alessio finding a pocket in left field for a single. D'Alessio got to third by the time
Luke Napleton got up to bat. Napleton hit a sac fly to bring D'Alessio home, putting the Hawks at the advantage.
Quincy dropped two runs in the top of the second, but held the Greyhounds until the eighth when UIndy hit a two-RBI single to secure the lead.
Cruz Meier stepped in to retire Walker in the eighth and held UIndy for the rest of the game.
Nolan Wosman grounded out to third, bringing
Luke Napleton in for the final Hawks run of the game.
Hawks look to rebound Saturday (May 27) at noon. If the Hawks take the game, a deciding game will be played 30 minutes after the first.
