Hawks Sweep Bearcats on the Road

BOLIVAR, Mo. – The Quincy University softball team drove in 14 runs on 21 hits enroute to a sweep of their doubleheader with the Bearcats of Southwest Baptist University. The Hawks dispatched SBU 7-4 in the first game and 7-1 in the second.
Game One
QU starter Jayle Jennings mowed down the Southwest Baptist lineup for the first four inning. The Quincy lineup was also held in check during that time.

A one out homer over the left field wall from Ashely Gerber put the first run of the game on the board in the top half of the fifth. Bailey Mitchell connected for a RBI up the middle to score Mykah Hurley from second. Jennings helped her own cause with a single to left, plating the third run of the inning to make it 3-0.

Five one out singles and an error gave a 4-3 lead to the Bearcats at the conclusion of the fifth.

The Hawks took advantage of three SBU errors in the top of the sixth to retake the lead 5-4.

After coming on in relief and collecting two strikeouts to end the fifth, Brooklynn Fischer worked a 1-2-3- inning in the bottom of the sixth.

Casey Brennan added some insurance in the top of the seventh, with a one out blast to make it 6-4. A pitching change followed by a single sandwiched inside two walks loaded the bases with two outs. Myka Hurley wore a pitch to press the lead further to 7-4.
