Hawks Score 22 in Home Victory

QUINCY, Ill. – The Hawks took a short break from their GLVC schedule to host NAIA opponent Ottawa University on Monday (Apr. 3) evening for a 5:00 p.m. match. QU netted it's most goals in a match on the season, led by Danielle Robinson with eight, in a 22-12 victory over the Braves.

Quincy found the back of the net first in the contest. Danielle Robinson scored at the 14:21 mark on a dish from Josie Szmanda to make it 1-0 early in the first. OU responded with a goal of their own a half minute later to even the score at 1-1.

Amelia Ham scored two minutes later to put the Hawk back out in front 2-1. Another goal from the Braves at the 9:40 mark tied things up at 2-2. QU opened the flood gates for the final nine and a half minutes of the first period, scoring seven unanswered goals to blow the game wide open.

Two goals and an assist from Robinson, goals from Ham, Ainslie Reynolds, Bianca Johnson and Szmanda, as well as a goal and two assists from Patricia Chavira rounded out the seven-goal streak. After the first 15 minutes Quincy led in convincing fashion 9-2.

The Braves got in the scoring column first in the second frame, converting at the 14:11 mark, to pull one closer at 9-3. Two more goals, another for Ham and Robinson pressed the advantage to 11-3 three minutes into the second.

After a five minute lull in scoring, Ottawa found the back of the net at the 6:31 mark. Szmanda got it with a score of her own to make it 12-4 with 5:45 left until halftime. OU got back in the match with a scoring outburst of four straight goals, pulling within four at 12-8 with 1:24 remaining.

QU buffered it's lead in the final thirty seconds of the half, finding the back of the net twice in the final half minute. Another goal from Robinson at the 24 second mark, along with a score for Chavira, on an assist from Reynolds, made it 14-8 after two period s of play.

It was Robinson, once again, getting in the scoring column to open the second half. The connection of Chavira to Robinson at the 13:54 pushed the lead farther to 15-8.
Ottawa answered with a goal a minute and a half later, prompting the Hawks to go on another big run. Five straight Hawk goals closed out the third period, part of a seven-goal streak that stretched into the fourth.

Bryn Allen scored a man-up goal to start the run at the 11:28 mark of the third. Robinson and Chavira scored next, followed by goals from the sisters Ham. Amelia Ham at the 6:45 mark, and Mikenna Ham with 13 seconds remaining to press the lead up to nine, and make the score 20-9.

Johnson and Robinson scored unassisted goals at the 12:33 and 9:25 marks to open the fourth, and conclude the scoring for Quincy in the match. Three OU goals in the final nine and a half minutes closed out a double digit win in the contest for the Hawks, 22-12.
