QUINCY, Ill.- The Quincy University Softball team hosted Lincoln University for a midweek doubleheader on Wednesday (Apr. 12). The Hawks would end up splitting the doubleheader as they lost the first game 11-2 but bounced back for the 3-2 win in game two.
Game One
Lincoln University would start the first game of the day off quickly as they scored two runs in the top of the first inning. The Hawks threatened to score in the bottom of the second inning with runners on second and third but could not bring them in.
Bailey Mitchell would start the bottom of the fourth inning with an opposite field bomb to get the Hawks on the board. But the Blue Tigers would respond back with a four run top of the fifth inning to open the game to 6-1.
Quincy would try to rally in the bottom half as a lead off double by Allison Kaiser followed by an infield single from Mykah Hurley would give the Hawks a great opportunity to cut the deficit. Some heads up base running would bring in QU's second run of the game but they could not cut the deficit any further.
Lincoln University would score an extra five runs in the top of the seventh and officially put the game out of reach for the Hawks as they ended up losing game one 11-2.

Game Two
Looking to bounce back, Jayle Jennings would retire the side in order in the top of the first and then Quincy University would score a run in the bottom of the first inning as Bailey Mitchell would hit an RBI single to bring in Casey Brennan.
Lincoln University would tie the game in the top of the second inning but in the bottom of the third inning Bailey Mitchell would hit her second home run of the day to put the Hawks back out front. Once again the Blue Tigers would respond in the top half of the fourth inning tying the game back up at 2-2.
Both teams would threaten in the following innings but could not bring in the go ahead run. But in the bottom of the sixth after a single from Allison Kaiser and a walk for Mykah Hurley, Casey Brennan would clutch up and hit an RBI single to left field giving the Hawks a 3-2 lead.
Jayle Jennings would finish what she started as she would record a one, two, three inning in the top of the seventh inning to secure the win for Quincy University. Jayle Jennings would pitch 7.0 innings only allowing two hits, two runs, and striking out four.
Quincy University will be back in action on Sunday (April 16th) as they travel to Springfield, Illinois for a GLVC doubleheader against the University of Illinois Springfield Prairie Stars. First pitch is set for 12:00 PM.
