QUINCY, Ill. – The Hawks rounded out the weekend by hosting the Maryville University Saints at the Mart Heinen Softball Complex on Sunday, March 26th. Maryville would take both games of the doubleheader by the scores of 4-3 and 9-6 in 11 innings.
Game 1
After Casey Brennan drew a leadoff walk, Taylor Downen hit a 2-run home run to center field to give the Hawks a 2-0 lead. The Saints would manufacture some runs in the 3rd and 4th innings to take the 3-2 lead.
Jayle Jennings deposited a ball over the left field fence to tie the game at 3 in the bottom of the 4th. Unfortunately, that would not hold up as the Saints scored the winning run in the top of the 5th on an RBI groundout.

Game 2
Through three innings of the 2nd game of the doubleheader, Maryville jumped out to a 3-0 lead. During the bottom half of the 4th inning, Taylor Downen made it 3-1 with a solo home run down the right field line. Later on in the inning, the Hawks executed the double steal to perfection as Bailey Mitchell stole second and Ashley Gerber stole home to cut the Saints lead to one.
The contest would stay that way until the 7th inning when the Saints picked up an insurance run on a sacrifice fly to make it 4-2. With one out and two runners on for the Hawks, Mykah Hurley singled down the left field line that brought home two runs to tie the game and force extra innings.
In the top of the 11th, the Saints added 5 runs, including a 3-run home run to give them a 9-4 lead. The Hawks would not go quietly in the bottom half of the 11th, as Casey Brennan would score on a double steal to make it 9-5. Jennings singled through the left side that scored Hurley from 2nd base to make it 9-6.
