QUINCY, Ill. – The Hawks hosted the McKendree University Bearcats in a GLVC doubleheader at the Mart Heinen Softball Complex on March 25th. QU took game one by the score of 7-3 and took the nightcap via the run rule 10-2 in 6 innings.
GAME 1
Taylor Downen got the scoring started for QU with an RBI single up the middle bringing Casey Brennan home. The Hawks kept the offense rolling in the 3rd inning as Bailey Mitchell found a hole in the right side of the infield for a 2 RBI single to give QU the 3-0 lead.
After the Bearcats got to within 3-1 on an RBI single, Brennan was able to throw the 2nd runner out at the plate to prevent another run. Quincy scored three more runs in the bottom of the 4th on a Mykah Hurley RBI single. Downen hit her 2nd home run of the season over the left field wall to make it 6-1 QU.
Maddy Findley brought Bailey Mitchell home on an RBI double down the left field line to give the Hawks the 6 run lead. The Bearcats were able to score 2 runs in the top of the 7th, but Jayle Jennings stranded two runners with a line out to end the game.

GAME 2
The nightcap of the doubleheader looked as it would be a pitchers' duel as there were a combined 3 hits in the first 2 innings. The offense for QU got rolling in the bottom of the 3rd as Ashley Gerber singled through the left side that scored Mykah Hurley. Jayle Jennings hit her 4th home run of the season, a 2-run variety to make it 3-0 Hawks.
The Bearcats cut the lead to one with a 2-run home run by Olivia Stansbury in the top of the 4th. QU extended its lead out to five runs in the bottom half of the inning. Casey Brennan started the rally with an RBI double to left center. Hurley followed that up with an RBI double of her own to make it 5-2 Hawks. Ashley Gerber made it 6-2 with the third consecutive RBI double. Jennings finished the inning with an RBI single to center field.
In the 5th, Hurley reached on a fielding error by the 2nd baseman on a bunt. That error let Brennan and Madeline Ruzicka come home to make it 9-2. Ashley Gerber finished the game off by scoring on a wild pitch in the 6th inning.
