QUINCY, Ill. – The women's tennis team opened their spring season against Division I competition in Eastern Illinois University at the Quincy Racquet Club on Friday, February 3^rd. EIU took the match from the Hawks by the score of 5-2.

The Panthers took the doubles point as they won two out of three doubles matches. The QU pair of Mar Sarda Marti and Mahi Panchal won the third doubles match.

Varvara Griva got the Hawks back on track in the top singles match as she won in 3 sets (4-6, 7-5, 6-0). The next two matches would go in favor of Eastern Illinois as Blanca Salas Cruz lost in straight sets and Steffi Lao lost her match in three. Mar Sarda Marti won the other singles match for the Hawks as she defeated Madeline Monroy in straight sets (6-1, 6-2). Rounding out the QU lineup was Mahi Panchal and Katrin Ismailova, who both dropped their matches.

QU returns to the courts on February 10^th on the road at Missouri Western State University.
