WINTER PARK, Fl. – The Hawks closed out their early season tour of Florida with a 12:00 p.m. (EST) series decider against the Tars of Rollins College on Saturday (Feb. 18) afternoon. Rollins put up seven runs in the first five innings enroute to a 9-3 win and 2-1 series victory over Quincy.
The Tars got to Hawk starter
Griffin Kirn early in the contest plating a run in the first and second inning to pull ahead 2-0. RC added two more runs in the fourth inning, in the process knocking out Kirn bringing in
Carter Endisch in relief. Rollins used a bases clearing double in the fifth to press their lead to 7-0.
QU got one back in the seventh on a homer from
Adam Lewis, adding two more in the eighth inning thanks to an RBI single from
Luke Napleton and a groundout from
Austin Simpson scoring
Gino D'Alessio to make it 7-3.
Just as the always dangerous Hawk lineup got the ball rolling, the Tars tacked on two more insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth to put the game out of reach for Quincy at 9-3.
After a 4-3 finish to their road-trip, which included a season opening series win over then #3 Tampa last weekend and a midweek drubbing of St. Leo, the Hawks will now have a week off to lick their wounds and prepare for home opening weekend. QU hosts Northwood University, a regional tournament team from the year prior, for a four-game weekend set. First pitch on Friday (Mar.3) is 3:00 p.m. at historic QU Stadium.
