Hawks Open Season with Come From Behind Victory

Quincy, Ill. - The Quincy University Women's Lacrosse team played host to preseason #24 Davenport University to open their season on Friday (Feb.10) for a 2:00 p.m. contest at The Rock. The Hawks collected their first win of the young season over the Panthers 9-7 behind a hat trick from Danielle Robinson. In addition, this is the first win over a nationally ranked opponent in the history of the program.

QU fell behind early in the first frame allowing the first goal of the match at the 13:21 mark. The Hawks were quick to answer with a goal of their own off the stick of Danielle Robinson less than a minute later to knot things at 1-1.

Robinson added another score a few minutes later up a man to give Quincy the lead 2-1. DU converted on a free position shot to draw things at 2-2 at the conclusion of the first period.

The Hawks struck first in the second quarter scoring just 14 seconds into the period. Fresh off the draw control, Emily Leal collected the ground ball and took by herself straight to the house to give Quincy a 3-2 edge. Less than a minute later the Panthers scored the equalizing goal and added another later in the frame to take a 4-3 lead into half-time.
Davenport grabbed another goal just over a minute after halftime to push their lead to 5-3 early in the second half. Quincy got one back a couple of minutes later on a goal from Ainslie Reynolds to draw within one at 5-4. Senior Bianca Johnson found the back of the net later in the quarter to even the score at 5-5 at the end of the 3rd.

Davenport took the initiative in the final frame notching two goals in the first three minutes taking a 7-5 lead into the final 12 minutes of play.
With time running out on the Hawks they got busy in a big way scoring four unanswered goals in the final five and a half minutes to topple the #24 Panthers and collect their first win of the season.

The Hawks will be back in action on Sunday (Feb.12) playing host to Concordia University, St. Paul for a 1:00 p.m. contest at QU Stadium.
